Vision Care Fund

The Vision Care Fund is an entirely student-run program that was originated by Epsilon Psi Epsilon. It began in the early 1980’s as a philanthropic effort to provide vision care to those that needed it most, but had no type of government assistance to help. The program focuses on low-income individuals with possible dependents, the recently laid off or unemployed, or simply those that are in dire need.

As students of Optometry, we realize that vision is priceless. Many people take their vision for granted as well. However, as we learn to become health care providers, at some point we must face the fact that not everyone can afford a clear view of the world. So, for those people who cannot afford an eye exam and glasses, for any variety of legitimate reasons, the members of Epsilon Psi Epsilon, Professional Fraternity of Optometry, try to help out through the Vision Care Fund. This help includes a free eye exam and free glasses to those who qualify. Because of our limited funding, we can only help each person one time. It is our hope that providing these patients with spectacles with an updated prescription, allow them to excel in school, find employment, and generally improve their quality of life.

VCF is not advertised to the Columbus public. Those in need are referred to us by e?e members, College of Optometry staff, case workers, churches, community organizations, and word of mouth.

Prospective patients are to send a copy of their last year's tax return or current pay stub along with a working phone number by mail to:

Vision Care Fund
c/o Doris Ball
338 West 10th Ave.
Columbus, OH 43210
or by fax to: 614-247-6626.

An EYE member will contact them to complete the screening process and to schedule an appointment.

This is a one time service for those who qualify. If patients sincerely need our help they will be scheduled an appointment in the Primary Vision Clinic with an EYE third year intern.
